They woke up this morning at 7 in the cold and pouring rain. Departure was delayed until 11 in the hope of the weather getting better but finally they gave up and packed their things and headed on.
Now they're at the city Chita after having ridden about 300km. The city was gray and dreary when they approached it. Riding around the city looking for a hotel a man called out of a car "Problemo?". Sverrir stopped to talk to him and told him they were looking for a place to spend the night. They followed him to a Chinese hotel nearby. After talking a bit more they discover that he's a mechanic and has a garage where he offered them to store the bikes as the hotel didn't have any accommodations. It'll be interesting to see if they'll still be there in the morning.
When they got in touch they'd had a nice Chinese dinner and afterwards the Karaoke was brought out. It didn't go with the story if they'd sung anything or not.
Tomorrow is a Russian holiday. They'll use the time to change tires as it's not sure if the roads from now on will have asphalt or concrete on them, it's more likely that they'll be gravel or mud. Einar ended up flat in mud this morning but luckily nothing got damaged and he wasn't hurt.
Their room is looking like a laundry room with their clothes and tent hanging to dry after last night.
With the good time they've made traveling through Russia they should be about a week earlier to Vladivostok than they'd planned and they should be on the ferry to Japan on June 24th.
Einar is getting bitten by flies again but Sverrir doesn't seem as appetizing to them.

Juna 10th 2007 - Cozy at the camp fire |
|
|
Sunday, 10 June 2007 |
Today they rode about 500km and are currently about 200 km from the city Chita.
This morning the weather was rainy but as they day went on it got better. Roads around here are decent and there's a fair bit of woods around.
They've pitched a tent and were sitting by the camp fire when they got in touch. Romantic isn't exactly the word they'd use for the atmosphere, they'd need their other halves for that, but it was comfortable and they're happy with the progress of the day.
Einar's horoscope for the day: The stars ask you to look around your world, nothing less. They think you're both braver and smarter than you think.
Sverrir's horoscope for the day: You feel as if you're drowning in work. You're pushing yourself hard and need to continue to do so. Soon you will be rewarded for all the hard work.
A trip like this is nothing but hard work. Sometimes it's interesting to look at the horoscopes just for fun and see what they say. It's true though, they're both brave and hard working.

June 8th 2007 - Russia again |

Friday, 08 June 2007 |
Finally they're back in Russia. It took about 5 hours crossing the border, waiting and doing paperwork. The boarder control looked thoroughly at their papers as they'd not come across many Icelandic people in their job. Mostly there were Mongolians crossing the borders and everything is checked very well before they're allowed into the country.
They rode about 400km total and are now at GMT+9
They're at Ulan-Ude and are on the 9th floor of a hotel. When going to take a shower the hot water was taking its sweet time getting there so it was probably on the colder side.
The bikes were stored in the hotel basement amongst all sorts of pipes and cables.
Tomorrow they'll go to Lake Baikal and then further East.

Today the VISA came through as planned and the brothers were very happy to continue on their journey around the world
They rode 220km but didn't get going until 5pm after filling up on gas and getting their things ready.
On their way they met an Australian man in his 50s and has been going all over the world on a motorbike. They talked for a while and accepted good advice.
As they'd gotten the right gas can in Ulan-Batar they were able to cook supper with their cooking gear. Einar also bought a new mattress as his had a puncture and therefor not comfortable to sleep on. They found a small clearing to cam in and will continue to Lake Baikal tomorrow. First they'll have to get into Russia though and hopefully that'll go well.
