They have arrived in Tallin after an amazing day. This morning they went to the Russian embassy in Helsinki where they had to wait an hour and a half. The result, they'll have to apply for a new visa to be allowed entry in to Russia, something they're not very excited about. Luckily there was a lady there who adviced them to go to a travel agent nearby and see if they could help. There they explained the situation and asked if there was any way to sort out the situation. "Return at 3pm" was the reply. While waiting they searched and found a gas station where they changed oil and filters. In the middle of the repairs a Landrover pulls in to the gas station and no other than the Icelandic Ambassador, Hannes Heimisson, steps out of the car. The ambassador had gone there to buy wood for his fireplace. Our two travelers had been to the embassy the day before but not met Mr Heimisson as he was out of office - and today they met him by chance. Time passed and they returned to the travel agent to see about the visa. What do you know, they've got a new 30 day visa for Russia and got travel insurance as well. Of course they had to pay a bit extra for the service but the main thing is that the visa situation has been solved. Next thing on the list, head to the ferry taking them to Tallin. The ambassador had told them where to go and they get in line. When it's their turn they get told that the ferry is full and they have to wait until the next one. Explaining that they've only got the motorcycles and asking if there's any chance to get on board they are told to wait. 10 minutes before departure the message comes that they'll be allowed on board and the motorcycles are stored between large trucks during the trip. On board the ferry Einar notices that his neighbor, Sveinbjörn Egilsson, has been trying to get a hold of him all day. Before Einar and Sverrir left for their trip Sveinbjörn had mentioned that he might be in Tallin around the same time and they decided it might be fun to try and get together. The result, Sveinbjörn got the task of finding a place for the brothers to stay and make arrangements for dinner. When the ferry arrived there were papers to sort out, something they'd been expecting and were prepared for, and everything was checked and checked again. Finally as they were about to get on the motorcycles again they find Sveinbjörn and they all took off spending the evening together.
Today they rode about 60km with the sun shining and nice weather. The plan for the next couple of days is to get to the border of Lithuania and Belarus. |
