May 25th 2007 - East of the Ural Mountains. |
Friday, 25 May 2007 | |
Yet another good day today. They rode 610 km, first in pouring rain but as the day went on the weather got better. Headed the main road east and ended at the Kazakhstan border, where they didn't want to go, so they had to backtrack about 100km to get back on the right road to the east of Russia. They met a Swiss on a BMW GS1150 bike. He'd been going around the world for some time previously but had to abort the trip because of illness. He's now completing the journey and will end in Mongolia. Their paths crossed three times today and they eventually ended up staying at the same hotel. Einar got a puncture twice today and had to use everything he had not to fall of the bike the first time. The second puncture was a result of a bad repair of the first one. They're now in a city called Ishim in beautiful weather and very happy with the days journey. Yesterday they drove over the Ural Mountains and went up to 720m altitude. |
